Tips to survive week 1 at a new job.
Congratulations on landing that dream job! Now, it's time to ace week one. The first week at a new job can feel overwhelming…to say the least. Even the most extraverted can feel a little exhausted by the end of it. You’re likely jumping into a new business, meeting new people, learning new tasks, and adjusting to a new routine and company culture.
Here’s some tips from our team to help you survive!
Self-care strategy: We 100% advocate for some time for yourself. Give yourself a week between finishing your old job and starting the new one if you can. Use this time to indulge in some self-care activities that help you feel refreshed and fabulous.
Get across your onboarding plan: If you’ve been sent an onboarding plan…take some time to understand what's expected of you in your first week, month, and beyond. And if you don’t, have a chat with your manager and see what you can come up with together.
Set boundaries: Setting healthy work boundaries early on is important. Try to leave work on time, take breaks, and only respond to emails during work hours.
Take lunch with the team: Yeah yeah, hanging out with new people can feel awkward, but joining your new team for lunch is a great way to bond. Ask them what they're doing for lunch and join in.
Set up your space: Whether you're working from home or in an office, personalize your workspace to make it feel like home.
Get social: Try to say yes to any after-work socializing. It's a great way to build connections. If you're an introvert, set a limit for yourself so you have time to recharge.
Me time: With so much going on, don't forget to take some time for yourself. Whether it's journaling, a massage, or a walk, prioritize self-care during the craziness of week one.
