Let’s talk salary negotiation…
"I’m currently on $..., but I’m open to negotiation."
For the past 20 years, I've had the privilege of sitting across from many of you, listening to your achievements, dreams, and challenges. While many of these conversations are uplifting, there's a recurring theme that requires me to check my own gender bias:
Money.
Women often preemptively offer flexibility on salary, even before being asked. But you’ve earned the right to stand firm on your worth. If money isn't your primary motivator, that's perfectly fine—still, hold your value for the rest of us. Do it for the sisterhood.
I'm suggesting a small but powerful change in how you approach interviews:
State your salary expectation.
Then stop talking.
Completely….the silence is never as long as it feels.
There will be a time for negotiation, but it shouldn't be upfront and only when asked. Hold your worth; you’ve earned it.
