What to leave out of an ecommerce resume.

In the fiercely competitive world of ecommerce, having a great ecommerce resume can be your golden ticket to landing that dream job. While we may spend a lot of time giving advice on what to include in your ecommerce resume, let’s also talk about what to leave out. Our recruitment team shares their pet peeves with ecommerce resumes and tips on what to avoid:

  • Speaking in 3rd person
Instead of sounding disconnected and disingenuous, speak directly about your experiences and achievements.

  • Corporate jargon like ‘spearheaded’ or ‘synergy’
Overused buzzwords can make your resume appear clichéd and unoriginal. Opt for clear and concise language.

  • Unreadable AI-written intros
While technology has come a long way, it's essential we can actually read your resume. Avoid overly complex and confusing language.

  • Headshots
In the Australian ecommerce industry, a headshot just isn’t necessary and takes up valuable space. Let your skills and qualifications speak for themselves!

  • Your home address or date of birth
Not only can personal info raise privacy concerns, it adds no value for the recruiter. Save this information for later if needed for official documentation.

  • Words like ‘guru’, ‘ninja’, or ‘master’
I’m sorry, but these terms don’t add much value to your resume. In fact, if you see a role posted that’s called ‘Marketing Rockstar’….we suggest you run!!

  • Unrelated personal hobbies
Unless your hobby directly relates to the job, it's best to leave it out. We love hikes, coffee and yoga as much as anyone else, but it probably won’t help you get the gig.

By avoiding these common pitfalls, you’ll craft a compelling and informative resume that gets ours, and our clients attention ;)
